Pathlogy

Clinical Labs at the Northern Beaches Hospital provides pathology testing services to inpatients, clinicians, and the general public.

Results from pathology tests, including blood tests and biopsies, give doctors the information they need to correctly diagnose and treat their patients. Pathology tests also help clinicians to screen for, and monitor, diseases and manage chronic conditions. In fact, 70% of medical decisions rely on pathology.

The Pathology Department has the latest biochemistry, haematology and transfusion instrumentation. This cutting-edge equipment gives the laboratory the ability to run multiple tests quickly with a high degree of reliability.

How to use Clinical Labs:

Doctors at the Northern Beaches Hospital can order pathology tests through the Hospital's Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, or by using pre-printed request forms. All other members of the public will need a pathology request form from their GP or specialist.

Results are sent to the referring doctor via the EMR, an online portal, or fax.

Clinical Labs provides ward round collection services for inpatients, and there are 2 collection centres within the Hospital - on the Ground Floor and on Level 6 - which anybody can use.
