The Paediatric Sleep Service at Northern Beaches Hospital

Sleep disorders are a major health problem and can have a significant impact on an individual’s health, safety and quality of life.

The Paediatric Sleep Service (for newborns - 18 year olds*) consists of highly qualified paediatricians, nurses and sleep scientists who provide diagnostic and treatment services, including overnight sleep studies to investigate and diagnose sleep disorders, including:

  • obstructive and central sleep apnoea (snoring)
  • periodic limb movement disorder
  • insomnia
  • night terrors
  • chronic fatigue
  • excessive daytime sleepiness
  • behavioural sleep disorders
  • other sleep related disturbances
  • delayed sleep wake phase disorder.

Download this information sheet to see what to expect when you and your child come to the hospital overnight for a sleep study.

This service is for private patients.  If your child has a sleep disorder, get a GP referral to Dr Rifat Chaudry for an appointment.  After the sleep study, you will have another appointment with Dr Chaudry to discuss the results and next steps. GPs and ENTs can use this referral form.

We have agreements with most major private health insurance funds and most funds cover sleep studies.  We recommend you contact your health fund to confirm your level of cover.  The item number to quote for a sleep study is 12210 for (ages 12 and under) and 12213 (ages 13 and over).  Alternatively, contact us and ask about the cost to self-fund.
